Publisher Description
The RITA-nominated author of The Edge of Night returns with another seductive novel, hailed by M. O’Keefe as “a dirty, gritty gem of a book.” As teens, Eric and Meghan fell for each other despite the odds—but now that they’re all grown up, they’re reunited by dangerous secrets.
Eric Hernandez is the bad boy of every schoolgirl’s fantasies—and every mother’s nightmares. But after serving time for manslaughter, he’s ready to turn his life around. He just needs a chance to prove himself as a professional tattoo artist. The one thing that keeps him going is the memory of the innocent beauty he loved and left behind.
Meghan Young’s world isn’t as perfect as it looks. The preacher’s daughter is living a lie, especially now that Eric is back. Tougher, harder, and sexier than ever, he might be the only person she can trust. But there’s no telling what he’ll do to protect her if he learns the truth, and that’s a risk Meghan won’t let him take. And yet, back in the arms of the troubled boy with the artist’s soul, Meghan can’t help surrendering to the man he’s become.

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Sorenson (the Aftershock series) takes a close look at the life of an ex-con, painting a realistic yet hopeful picture of the struggles and obstacles he must endure to earn trust and secure any chance of a positive future. According to the government, former gang member and drug dealer Eric Hernandez has paid his dues; however, his former associates have put a price on his head. He was raised in a crime-riddled barrio on the California-Mexico border, but he's determined to change his life and has vowed to do what he needs to do to stay on the right path. Meghan Young has always loved Eric, despite the objections of her brother, Noah, a police officer. The day before Eric was sentenced, he told Meghan she never meant anything to him. Believing his lie, she moved on. But when Eric gets out of prison three years later, he winds up living with Noah who's now married to Eric's brother's widow and that same house is where Meghan flees when she leaves her abusive boyfriend. Eric must find a way to hide his intense attraction to Meghan, whom he sees as off-limits in numerous ways. This intense contemporary story has solid character and emotional development; however, the lovers' paths only cross sporadically during a majority of the story, leaving romance readers unsatisfied.

A second chance at love and at life!
This is a second chance story. A second chance at life and at love. After doing three years in prison for manslaughter, Eric Hernandez is ready to start again. He soon realizes how difficult starting over will be. The most difficult is staying away from the woman he loves, Megan Young. He thinks she deserves more but she wants him...BAD! When his past threatens his future, Eric must make some important difficult decisions.
This is a good read that kept my attention throughout. Eric's life outside of prison is the main focus, with the romance coming in second. I think the reader MUST remember that Eric is an ex-gang member and still carries that mentality. There's a huge shocker towards the end that involves Junior! I wasn't expecting that one!

Good but..
of her better books. I didn’t think it was one of those books that had a hot connection between the characters and wasn’t one of those books that left a lasting impression. But do not get me wrong, this by no means will stop me from reading more books by Ms. Sorenson. Despite Eric and Megan loving each other, circumstances worked against them to pull them apart. Eric spent time in prison for killing a man. When he went to prison he pushed Megan away by telling her he did not want her anymore. He thought he was doing the right thing. He didn’t want her to wait around for him. He wanted her to get one with her life. After being released, he goes to live with his sister-in-law and her husband Noah. Noah is Megan’s brother. Because of Eric’s past and involvement with his sister, Noah is not a fan of his. But he does help him by getting him an interview at a tattoo parlor. He will just have to prove himself. Although Megan has moved on and is now dating an abusive jerk named Chip, she has never given up on loving Eric. This is a book of forgiveness and second chances. In the beginning Eric seemed so lost. But as time went on he became more comfortable being out of prison and was looking forward to moving on with his life. There were some fun secondary characters. The only thing is the ending did not seem as polished or finished; no resolution as to whom the stalker is and would have liked an epilogue that looked further into the future to see how Megan and Eric were doing. Hopefully the author will build stories around the other characters and these questions will be answered.
