Walter Crane was primarily a designer and book illustrator, specialising in children's books. He is considered to be the most influential, and among the most prolific, children’s book creator of his generation and one of the strongest contributors to the child's nursery motif that the genre of English children's illustrated literature would exhibit in its developmental stages in the latter 19th century. Illustrated the Grimm’s, Charles Perrault’s, folk- and other fairy tales, Crane created the colorful and detailed images, that associate with famous characters nowadays.
“Aladdin” is a famous fairy tale, entered in “The Book of One Thousand and One Nights” ("The Arabian Nights"). Aladdin was the poor tailor’s son, who once met a sorcerer from the Maghreb. The sorcerer passed himself off as the brother of Aladdin's father Mustapha, but his real motive was to assure young Aladdin to retrieve a wonderful oil lamp from a magic cave. Aladdin agreed, but the wicked sorcerer deceived him, and Aladdin found himself trapped in the magic cave…
