Publisher Description
Alayah is a story about a girl who is born with sand in her hair. The sand is a metaphor to her roots and where she grew up. At first Alayah is bothered by the sand in her hair and washes it and washes it without avail. She soon discovers she doesn't really mind it, after all she does love the shores she is from. The story is about growing up and accepting oneself and being comfortable with whom they are and it is equally a story of the changing times. In the end, 'Alayah always knew that no matter where she was the sand in her hair was her home and forever with her.'
Customer Reviews
Wonderful book
I'm from a totally different continent, in Brazil, and reading this book to my little daughter allowed her to travel not only to a different country, but to dive into a different culture. Very nicely written story and beautiful illustrations.
It's become one of her favorite bedtime stories!
Embracing our roots <3
Loved the book! Encourages kids to celebrate their roots so beautifully, especially for those who are growing up far from their homes!
Alayah hits the spot
Too many times we read about our surroundings and lives from other people but when it's written by someone you know and love writes about your home and the changes that have taken place around it - it touches your heart and soul.
The best thing about Alayah is that adults and children alike can enjoy it from the way it's written to its meaning and the artwork - it's simplicity, the storyline, and appreciation for the past and the present makes it an amazing read.
I hope you all enjoy it.
