New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett scores big-time with the first novel in a sexy new series hot enough to melt the ice.
Hockey star Alexander Crossman has a reputation as a cold-hearted player on and off the rink. Pushed into the sport by an alcoholic father, Alex isn’t afraid to give fans the proverbial middle finger, relishing his role as the MVP they love to hate. Management, however, isn’t so amused. Now Alex has a choice: fix his public image through community service or ride the bench. But Alex refuses to be molded into the Carolina Cold Fury poster boy . . . not even by a tempting redhead with killer curves.
As a social worker, Sutton Price is accustomed to difficult people—like Alex, who’s been assigned to help her create a drug-abuse awareness program for at-risk youth as part of the team’s effort to clean up his image. What she doesn’t expect is the arrogant smirk from his perfect lips to stir her most heated fantasies. But Sutton isn’t one to cross professional boundaries—and besides, Alex doesn’t do relationships . . . or does he? The more she sees behind Alex’s bad-boy façade, the more Sutton craves the man she uncovers.

Amazing, slow start.
I read some past reviews and each author has their “quirks” and Sawyers seem to be tell not show which is fine! But some other reviews didn’t seem to agree. It really doesn’t impact the story line much. It did take me a while to get into the plot due to the beginning being about them working on a project and maybe less than 25% of the book is geared around that which I found odd. But I loved the book Alex has such depth I wish he was real haha. Loved it over all.
Stands out from the crowd!
I’ve read the whole Carolina Cold Fury and Arizona Vengeance series, along with a number of other authors’ hockey romances.
Sawyer B’s stories are delightful unique in the way they include the whole hockey organization. The coaches, trainers, management, owner - all are realistic and detailed characters.
The relationships between the players are well thought-out, and you get to see some of the work involved with being say, team captain. Too many authors just use a hockey rink as a backdrop, but not Sawyer. Hockey is at the center of the hero’s life in these books, which is 💯 realistic for a pro sport with a fairly short earnings window.
How do you navigate a relationship in this high pressure environment? What do you do when you age out of pro play? Read and find out!
Really really good! Wasn’t real sure at first but just the right mix of real, funny sexy and emotion! New author for me and I’m excited to read more.
