When a sudden tragedy leaves kid orphaned, without home or family, kid flees his tiny home town of Arland, Wyoming. Armed only with what he can fit in his pockets and on his belt, he sets out across the rugged Rocky Mountains on foot, searching for the hitchhiker's Mecca:  US Interstate 80.  His only goal is to drown his past in the Pacific, heal, and begin again.

After weeks braving the wilderness, fighting off predators, and surviving a near-fatal injury, kid finally reaches the asphalt of I-80. But his real journey begins when he flags down a ride from a most extraordinary man.
