Allan Quatermain

The sequel to Haggard’s exceptionally successful King Solomon’s Mines, Allan Quatermain proved to be another of the author's best-selling works. Telling more of the story of the title character, a professional big game hunter who trades frequently with South Africans, the novel explains Quatermain’s childhood, how he acquired vast wealth and the fate of his parents. Since the publication of the novel in 1887, Allan Quatermain has been portrayed in several television and radio series as well as full-feature films starring Richard Chamberlain and Patrick Swayze. Movie fans will also remember Allan Quatermain’s appearance in the 2003 film League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, where actor Sean Connery played Haggard’s famous hero.
