Publisher Description
In an atmospheric, chilling novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Jackson, a string of murders points to a terrifying secret within a wealthy San Francisco family…
Shock and grief play tricks on the mind. Cissy Cahill has been telling herself that a lot lately. Even if Cissy wasn’t particularly close to her grandmother, Eugenia Cahill’s sudden death was bound to take a toll. That would explain the footsteps Cissy hears when there’s no one around, the scent of another woman’s perfume, the unnerving shadows outside her son’s bedroom window. She doesn’t want to panic—or give her estranged husband, Jack, more reason to try and move back in. After all, why would anyone choose to target her?
For generations, the Cahills have been one of San Francisco’s most affluent families, with a splendid manor perched high above the Bay. Money like theirs offers not just privilege, but protection. Yet something has changed. One by one, Cahills are dying in brutal ways. Uncertain who to trust, Cissy is desperate to keep her young son safe. And the only way is to delve into her family’s past and uncover the twisted truth…before a killer finds them.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In bestseller Jackson's exciting third thriller to feature Det. Selena Alvarez and Det. Regan Pescoli (after Chosen to Die), the two Grizzly Falls, Mont., cops look into the suspicious fall of schoolteacher Jocelyn Wallis onto a rocky ledge. Jocelyn, who later dies in the hospital of her injuries, turns out to bear an uncanny resemblance to Hollywood actress Shelly Bonaventure, whose recent death from a pill overdose was officially ruled a suicide, though the police suspect foul play. When Kacey Lambert, a doctor who coincidentally resembles Jocelyn and Shelly, reports that her home has been bugged, Alvarez and Pescoli step up their investigation before Kacey becomes the next victim. Jackson skillfully interweaves the suspense surrounding the look-alike women with the romance that develops between Kacey and local rancher Trace O'Halleran. Deft characterizations, in particular the strong female leads, and a well-crafted plot compensate for some seriously clich d prose ("Evil glinted in the eyes she'd found so intriguing just hours before").

Almost Dead
Lisa Jackson’s Nick Cahill stories make a really good series. Bad boy Nick? Heart Of Gold Nick? Hmmm? Just which is it? Good storylines with mystery, betrayal, sex, + more. Good strong, characters, some good, some bad, and some just plain evil. What more can you ask of a good book? 3 in the series so far. Keep em coming Lisa
