Always Been Mine (The Moreno Brothers‪)‬

Overall, a good book. Certain parts were a little too detailed and unnecessary, which would in no way lessen the strength of the book if removed.

I must admit however that I found Valerie incredibly annoying. She depended entirely too much on the opinions of others and jumped to conclusions (though some were understandable). Most frustrating of all was how she failed to see how her interaction(s) with Luke were just as problematic as how Alex behaved early on in their relationship. You would think, having experienced what she did and the frustration she felt when she thought he was up to no good, she would easily see how her relationship with Luke was an issue.

This, like the first book, is a very sweet story. There are only two main issues. Pacing and editing.

The author gives great details that really draws the reader in. As everything begins to unravel in the Valerie/Alex/Bruce/Luke circle, I started questioning everything and everyone. The whole mystery of how and when kept me reading when the story seemed to drag on through the “Why do I have to tell him everything?” of the story. Normally, I could finish a book like this in. Less than a day. However, I was so bored from reading different but simian situations that really didn’t drive the plot forward (i.e. Isabel and Romero), I had to keep stopping and coming back to it.

The other issue I had is the editing. Just thinking about it makes me want to drop my rating down to two stars but I truly like Alex and Valerie’s story. From mixing up the homophones their, there, and they’re to the missing commas or apostrophes, it makes me wonder if this book was even edited. I actually put down the boom and scoffed when on one page it was “Sarah” and on the very next page it was “Sara.” I don’t go looking for mistakes but when they jump out at the reader like a topless dancer trying to bring in the tips...it’s very frustrating. How hard it is to edit your own work, get someone to edit for you, and/or do a find and replace to ensure you’ve spelled the characters names correctly?

Even as I’m writing this review, I’m frustrated by the lack of attention to grammar. But I didn’t spend my hard earned money on the book. My advice to you is just that. Don’t buy the book. Grab it when it’s free.
