The government of the United States is thrown into turmoil when President Wilson Turnbull is assassinated during his address to a large outdoor audience in Washington, D.C. However, the president wasn't the only high-level government official to be targeted. After the assassins were able to escape the city, President pro tempore Calvin Gunderson was the only official left to assume the presidency. However, with the sudden immense pressure, Gunderson fell to a heart attack in his sleep, leaving the presidency in the hands of the secretary of defense, Philip Swayze. Will he be able to take control of what remains of the U.S. government and bring the nation back to what it once was, while also pursuing the cadre of assassins who are determined to keep the country in chaos?
