Isabella was the daughter of a Vicar in Yorkshire, England. In the 19th century she was a household name as one of the great explorers of her time. This book is a fascinating account of her travels in Tibet as a missionary and nurse, published in 1894. Along with her medical bag she always carried a revolver. To most Europeans at this time Tibet was still a land of myth and mystery.
