An Alien Encounter
The book is about aliens entering the solar system and asking man for help in repairing their damaged ships. There are a lot of futuristic technologies within the book, but they are believable.
The aliens arrive when humans are near the brink of war which they want no part of. Unfortunately, if they want mans help, they must choose sides. The main character is a space Marine that has no political ambitions or training, but he is nevertheless thrown into the role of Earth's Ambassador and negotiator in dealing with the aliens. While performing his duties, he learns how truely alien both of their cultures are to one another and that the aliens reason for entering the solar system is not the entire truth.
The story isn't fast paced, but it is solid and the characters are interesting. IMO, the book is a good read for any sci fi fan.
