An American Pilot with the Luftwaffe

Rudy Hagen, son of German immigrants, was born in Chicago in 1920. In 1933, father and son moved to Germany. Adjusting to life in the Third Reich, Rudy becomes a pilot and in WWII a highly decorated Luftwaffe fighter ace. On leave in occupied Paris, Rudy meets the lovely Jeanette from Alsace and they become lovers. Jeanette's brother, Erich, had been mustered into the German military and his outspoken comments about the war has landed him as forced labor in the Nazi underground rocket factory which brings Wernher von Braun into the story. Returning to combat, Rudy bails-out over England and assumes the identity of a dead American pilot. This role reversal, he realized, could affect his relationship with the beautiful Jeanette.
