John's gospel is unique among the four New Testament accounts. Matthew, Mark and Luke share a great deal of material with one another, but the Gospel of John is written in a different style and contains a great number of teachings found nowhere else in the New Testament. Many unique sayings of Jesus, such as "you must be born again," are found only in this gospel. John also includes the account of Jesus raising his close friend Lazarus from the dead, a miracle that motivates the religious authorities to seek Jesus' execution.
