Customer Reviews
Insightful and fascinating, a heavy read but worth it.
It is difficult to imagine any but the reader genuinely interested in this kind of subject matter will be motivated enough to finish the book, but the few who are will be rewarded for it. It may be heavy on detail but a book of this sort is bound to delve deeply into its subject given the nature of its subject. Maine happens to present it in as clear and lucid and, frankly, intelligible a fashion as one could hope. The slow evolution of the legal architecture of civilization is laid bare throughout. It’s no buzzfeed, but that’s a good thing.
