pubic hair is ripe with mystery. is it a sublime glory or a sign of a slut?
attitudes change over time and with geography. some religions require pubic hair to be removed, some artists omitted it when painting nudes, some scientists have used it to assess sex drive. at different times, in different places, pubic hair has been an object of disgust, a source of pleasure; sexy or a turn off; a milestone of maturity; a sign of debauchery; a modest covering or an obscenity and, more recently, a fashion statement.
why have we got pubic hair? where does it come from? what, if any, is the point of it? what are the advantages and disadvantages?
some people are so intent on removing it that they bear the pain of waxing, the embarrassing itch of shaving, the constant need for vigilance in case a stray hair creeps outside the bikini line.
others revel in its luxuriant growth. some take it for granted. what is normal? what is natural?
the aim of this small book is to try to answer some of these questions and, perhaps, to raise even more.
