Brad Walsh has everything — wealth, status, comfort, family — as he lives a privileged, but unfulfilled life as a corporate executive. When his estranged childhood friend Bobby lands on Mars, Brad starts to reflect on his missed ambitions. His refusal to follow the historic mission leads his wife, Jessica, once Bobby's high school sweetheart, to question Brad's rancor towards life. After the astronauts mysteriously fail to return to Earth, Brad is surprisingly offered an unexpected opportunity to discover the mission's fate through a mysterious woman working for the FBI.

Meanwhile, in China, young Chen competes for a place on the nation's first moon mission, unaware that an ancient Han dynasty document foretells a hidden agenda that could alter the course of civilization. Brad does not know it, but he once had the opportunity to save the Earth — and failed.
