Storms in the dry countries are infrequent, but heavy; and this surely meant storm. We had ridden since sun-up over broad mesas, down and out of deep canons, along the base of the mountain in the wildest parts of the territory. The cattle were winding leisurely toward the high country; the jack rabbits had disappeared; the quail lacked; we did not see a single antelope in the open.

Don’t just read about “ the old west” lifestyle, live it in this novel.
Very well written story. Attention to detail and an immersive telling, transports you to the side of the range riders. As a range rider in my younger day I can relate to the plot and attitude toward the hard work. “ when something needs done you just do it and think nothing special about it, it’s just part of the job.” If you can put yourself in the place of the main character then you really enjoy and live this story like you were there yourself. I highly recommend this novel if you like unadorned, and realistic old western narrative of days gone by of “ the old west”
