Ark

Fifteen years before the novel begins, impending nuclear war threatened to destroy mankind. The Ark forms the gateway to New Earth, a safe underground world where everyone works hard for his manna, including the children. After fifteen years, the 144,000 Saved are still ensconced in a dark world where giant television screens light the corridors. The TV News keeps the people assured and grateful that the Forces of Heaven continue to protect them from the constant threat of invasion by the Forces of Hell, which lies outside the shelter. Unproductive workers and unbelievers are sent outside to suffer. Yet, Jason Alexander wishes to leave the safety of the shelter and take his six-year-old daughter with him.
