Publisher Description

The Armchair Traveler's Guide to Death Valley allows you to visit many rarely seen parts of the park. Most visitors to the park see only a few sites, usually those in the Furnace Creek area. While these sites are included in the book,  many more rarely seen locations are introduced and shown with photographs and panoramic views.

This book contains almost 100 photographs  and  35 animated and interactive panoramas. The information pages cover the human history and natural history of Death Valley and include detailed popup notes where appropriate.

The book provides multiple ways to navigate through the material, 1) simply turning the pages, following internal links, using the site index, selecting a site from a map, or using the built in iBook navigation.

Ambitious design approach makes book frustrating

While there is a decent bit of helpful information in this book, it is unfortunately very difficult to read and navigate. Each page is extremely slow to scroll (on iPad mini 3). The book frequently loses my location when I switch back from checking email or doing some web browsing, sending me back to the first page. In addition, the numerous panoramas are framed by (and largely obscured by) elements that do not exist at that location: as seen through a small doorway, for instance. I'm unsure of the author's intent, but this kept me from being able to appreciate the scenes.
