Publisher Description
Felix is an Earth soldier, encased in special body armor designed to withstand Earth's most implacable enemy-a bioengineered, insectoid alien horde. But Felix is also equipped with internal mechanisms that enable him, and his fellow soldiers, to survive battle situations that would destroy a man's mind.
This is a remarkable novel of the horror, the courage, and the aftermath of combat--and how the strength of the human spirit can be the greatest armor of all.

Incredible read!
If you’ve read and liked Enders Game, you may love this book. It gives a more detailed look into the battlefront on the war to the alien ant world. But it’s much more than that! It’s a story of redemption, at many levels, across different worlds; it’s about honor and eventually standing up and doing the right thing.
A bafflingly bad book
I’m not quite sure what I just read. It’s like the author wrote two independent novellas and attempted to graft them together to make a whole book. The first book is a moderately interesting military sci-fi story about fighting alien ants. The second is a zero stakes space pirate book. They are unconnected and are only vaguely in the same universe. The author attempts to link them by having the space pirate watch video logs of the ant story. Finally instead of developing the characters they just smoke cigarettes. All of the characters are chain smokers. A confusing amount of prose is devoted to describing smoking.
Still the All time
After my 6th or 7th time reading this in 25 years I still love it.
RIP Stanley
