Publisher Description
A nautical thriller for readers of Clive Cussler and Jack Higgins.
Wooden sailboats shouldn’t play with steel yachts.
When his lover’s sister is the latest victim in a series of sadistic assaults, Jared Kane sets out to find the guilty party. His search leads him into a tangled network of sex, power, and religion connecting high political office in the city to a secretive sect in the B.C. wilderness.
The crimes seem connected to an exclusive yacht club in Vancouver’s West End, where Jared is able to moor his old wooden sailboat, Arrow, so he can infiltrate the elite. Jared’s friend Danny MacLean has no qualms about fleecing the club’s privileged members and joins Jared in the pursuit. Tracking their quarry on a long chase up through the furthest reaches of the Salish Sea, Arrow and her crew pay a tragic price for resolution in the bleak waters of Desolation Sound.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
The life of Jared Kane, the owner of the wooden sailboat Arrow, changes drastically when his girlfriend's sister is raped and left barely alive on a park bench in Vancouver, British Columbia, in Scott's solid third nautical thriller (after 2019's Arrow's Fall). Jared and his sailing buddy, Danny MacLean, join Detective Clarke in the search for the rapist, who has assaulted other women in Vancouver. Their investigation takes them to swanky nightclubs, an exclusive yacht club, and a glittering fundraising gala for the Conservative Party, as well as into a terrifying yet seductive network of sex, drugs, and crime. At times the characters indulge in banal conversations that do nothing to further the plot, but those with a nautical bent will enjoy the exciting scenes in which Jared takes part in a regatta hosted by the yacht club, and the bloody finale in the icy waters of Desolation Sound provides some thrills. Series fans will have fun catching up with Jared and friends.
