A different romance
In the acknowledgments, one is notified of a difference in the romantic pair. It is an LGBT Regency, the likes of which I have not read since the elusive Michelle Martin’s Pembroke Park.
I couldn’t tell from the description blurbs why I was being warned, but I read on. I am so happy I did.
You can get the plot info in the blurb. The language of both the dialogue and narrative evokes the period, and NOT the 20th century, unlike, thankfully, too many of my recent reads.
I hope the author will spin Cedrica a romance. Poor girl: in addition to being taken for granted, she was saddled with an awkward name: was she named for a male relative from whom her parents had great expectations?
It is wonderful when the Regency period story can be removed from the drawing room, but still cling to the structure of the period. Few authors try, and even fewer succeed.
