Publisher Description
A "splendid" and witty take on the Arthurian legend by the acclaimed author of Little Big Man (The New York Times Book Review).
The myth of King Arthur has been told countless ways since the sixth century, always combining action, adventure, romance, and tragedy. In Arthur Rex, Thomas Berger updates the legend in irreverent fashion, forever changing King Arthur and his Round Table. In Berger's medieval England, the damsel in distress is never what she appears to be. Merlin is a wizard of a completely different stripe. Classic heroes and villains are vividly reimagined, breathing fresh life into a familiar story. Powerful, emotional, and at times laugh-out-loud funny, Arthur Rex is an unforgettable tribute to one of the most celebrated tales of all time.
This ebook features an all-new introduction by Thomas Berger, as well as an illustrated biography of the author including rare images and never-before-seen documents from his personal collection.

A nostalgic read!
What a wonderful book! A terrific retelling of the King Arthur and the Knights of the Roundtable story. Vividly bringing to life each of the knights. Compassionate about the follies of King Arthur, Sir Lancelot, Guinevere, and all of their compatriots and the beauties they loved. It was long, but it was a very good and entertaining read. Far more colorful than the original. And quite often very tongue-in-cheek. Thomas Berger was clearly a great master of the English language, making archaic English readable. He had a fascination with the supernatural, and an addiction to magical realism, probably before the term was even coined! Beginning with the stone from which Arthur withdrew the sword Excalibur, the author left no stone unturned.
A marvelous read!
Berger tells the full story of King Arthur, marrying faux early-English syntax and spelling with sly, perspicacious observations. Really fun to read!
