A small cube of black rock has been unearthed in a 3500-year-old Mycenaean tomb.

An incomprehensible object in an impossible place; its age,its purpose, and its origins are unknown.

Its discovery has unleashed a global storm of intrigue, theft andespionage, and is pushing nations to the brink of war.

The male gaze gets old fast

Sure this book has a woman as one of the main characters and sure we cover institutionalized sexism, but then we rapidly shift to the male gaze for at least a third of the book, wasting time on her outfits and hair and how they affect them men around her (no men get this treatment) before we can drop that and get to science fiction and archaeology.

Why do we have to learn why Claire wears stockings instead of house, but not what John’s underwear preferences are? 🙄

Why do we cover Claire’s insecurities but not John not George nor any other man’s? 😒
