From USA Today bestselling author Megg Jensen combining the best elements of science fiction and fantasy
Two hundred years ago, an interplanetary expedition crashed on a deserted planet. Their ship was destroyed. Their technology lost.
They built a new society while they waited for rescue. It never came.
Instead they caught the attention of the dragzhi, an aggressive alien species, and found themselves in the midst of a war they were doomed to lose.
Torsten Vikker, a soldier who’d rather read than fight, is on a mission to recover an artifact rumored to have the power to defeat the dragzhi. Rell, a woman raised in a cult, will stop at nothing to keep him away from what she holds sacred.
Yet only together can they hope to save humanity from utter annihilation.

The romance was a bit cheesy at times, but overall this was an enjoyable read for me
Poorly written and plated.
Jensen has trouble with logic and her plot. For example, the heroine is sent topside with no way to return underground but shortly thereafter she is in a tunnel following the hero (who is on the surface) by observing him through peep holes. Another example, she can produce a flame on her hand, project a deadly stream of fire and create a walll of fire, but the hero takes unsurprised, as if he expects any underground deweller to have such abilities. Fortunately, the first book is free so no money lost if you don’t like it. Beware, the first book is incomplete, the following two books compete the “saga."
