Profound continuation of a beautiful story

The story of Avatar: the Last Airbender is a beautiful one, filled with complex plot lines that showcase real social and emotional issues, and brilliant characters connected deeply and meaningfully to each other and the world they inhabit. This graphic novel is a true continuation of the spirit of the original work, beginning to tackle themes perhaps even more complex than the show itself in some ways, but with the same humour, love, and eloquence.
The development not only of the story but the characters is beautiful, at times enough to bring a tear to the reader’s eye. In addressing the complex issues of multicultural life and love amidst a dark and murky history, this series of graphic novels begins to unwind yet another aspect of the realities of war with nuance and grace. The development in the characters as they interact with their real and detailed world is poignant and moving. This is most especially clear as Aang continues to address the genocide of his people and the legacy he carries as the sole living remnant of his culture, and as Zuko struggles with the guilt and depression that haunt his early years as Fire Lord, attempting to do what is right and escape the dark shadow of his family’s legacy.
Altogether a wonderful read, which I have very much enjoyed. Couldn’t put it down!

    For the fans

If you are a fan of the show, and want to know what happens next. This is it

Avatar the Last Airbender is my life…

And the show is a gold mine! It has everything an awesome show needs: humor, good characters, good character development, a good redemption ark (way to go Zuko!), and an amazing plot and story line. The show was and still is arguably the best show ever!
But the books are a different story. They’re great! But there are a few mistakes here and there. Let’s run through them all:

    First, the cringe worthy stuff:
There’s only one thing and one thing only, and everybody knows what it is. Aang and Katara calling each other “sweetie”. Literally everybody cringed when they read that dialogue.

    Second, the characters:
Every avatar character has a downside in the books. Let’s go through all of them

Aang- Aang is the main character, the avatar. And we all know the Aang from the beginning of the series, immature and goofy. That’s the Aang in the books except not goofy. He’s pretty immature for, what, a 15 year old? Still Aang is pretty likable.

Katara- Katara is a powerful waterbender and they show that in the books. But Katara is a little bit boy crazy. She’s supposed to be kind and caring to everybody. Not a boy crazy waterbender.

Sokka- Sokka is the comic relief and totally succeeds at that. But the books make him seem almost helpless without bending. In the series, he’s totally goofy, but he’s also a great swordsman and boomerang thrower.

Zuko- Zuko is my favorite character. And it’s no wonder why with a redemption ark like his, but his character still has problems. Zuko doesn’t have as much muscle as in the series. And he’s a pathetic firelord too. With as much experience with leadership and experiencing different lifestyles as he has, I think he would be a great firelord.

Azula- Azula is a bit too crazy at times even for who she is.

Toph- I know that I said that every character has a downside, but Toph is kinda perfect.

    Third, the storyline:
Most of the books have a storyline that’s nothing compared to the series. The exception being “The Search”. Most of the storylines are poorly written.

That’s all of the bad things. But I want to end this review on a good note. The books continue the series and I love that I get the story leading up to The Legend of Korra. Thanks for reading! Have and awesome day! 😎

P.S. Why all the hate for L.O.K (Legend of Korra)? It’s and amazing series. Just as good as A.T.L.A (Avatar the Last Airbender). 🤔😎
