Didn’t sit well with me
Spoilers. I didn’t like the way Zuko’s search for his mother was resolved for numerous reasons.
First, I didn’t like that she traded her new face for her old face and memories back. She has a new family now, and her old face is the only face her daughter has ever known. It seems unkind to the new daughter to become someone who looks nothing like the mother that raised you. It came off as the writers considering only Zuko’s story, not the implications or impact it would have on others.
Also, her new family will now be living in perpetual danger with an unhinged Azula who now knows her mother’s secret identity and location on the loose.
Ultimately, this did not feel like a good resolution. It leaves the character’s new family in danger and in a state of uncomfortable change that will require the daughter to come to terms with a completely “new” mother.
In my opinion, a better resolution would have been for Zuko to just leave her with her new family, happy to see that she is free from Ozai’s abuse.
Everything else was pretty good. Art, characters, and dialogue all great.
