Great mystery with Southern Charm
Ax to Grind is the 3rd book in the Kenni Lowry Series by Tonya Kappes. Sheriff Kenni Lowry is surprised and happy to see her grandfather’s ghost. She is not surprised because she sees his ghost but that she is seeing his ghost without a crime having occurred. His ghost usually does not appear unless there has been a major crime committed. She loves spending time with her grandpa even if he is a ghost, but she has her hands full with her re-election, her feeling her Deputy Vincent, and her mother’s “help” of dealing with both election and Deputy Vincent. When a body is found, Kenni has to put her feeling and everything else on hold until the murder has been solved. Can she solve the murder, enjoy working with her grandpa, and work through her feelings for Vincent without losing the election before it even starts?
I love this series. The characters are great and the setting is full of small town charm. Being a southern from a small town I can really relate to the characters; how everyone knows everyone and gossip spreads like wildfire. I love how Mrs. Kappas writes her characters to be smart and witty and full of southern charm without being too over the top and stereotypical. I love the touches of dialect she includes this adds to the hilarity of the story. Although this is what I enjoy and can relate to, you do not have to be a southern to understand or enjoy this book.
The book is well written, great story line, full of twist and turns, and great pace. True to cozy genre there is no bad language and no graphic sex or violence. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a good mystery with a touch of humor.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book, above is my honest opinion.
Kenny is back and digging up secrets
I really love reading Tonya Kappes books! Her characters are so relatable and interesting. Ax to Grind is the 3rd book in the Kenny Lowry series. I have really been enjoying this series. I love the cozy mystery with the paranormal twist. It is a lot of fun.
Kenni is the sheriff of a small town who gets help solving cases from a hunky deputy (and love interest) and the ghost of her grandfather (the former sheriff). This particular case spills some deeply buried secrets for people in the small town. Secrets worth killing for. It is a fun mystery with lots of twists and turns. And I also enjoy following the love story between Kenni and Finn.
I highly suggest this book, as well as the others in the series. You won't be disappointed.
Small town cozy delight
This is the first book I've read in this series and won't be the last. I loved it! It is the third one in the series and I didn't have any trouble following small details that were talked about in the previous ones so it can definitely be read as a stand alone. I just loved Sheriff Kenni and Finn. He is so dreamy. Even if you don't care for romance in your mysteries, this never distracted from the main story line. Tonya Kappes is one gifted author! I have yet to read anything of hers I didn't like. She is one of my favorites. You will just love this small cozy town this is set in. I want to live there now because I feel like I know the people lol.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Henery Press for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review
