PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Warren (Hard Breaker) phones it in for the opener to her shape-shifter Alphaville series, telling a story with a cardboard cutout villain and few surprises after the initial setup. Red wolf shape-shifter and librarian Renny Landry is on the run from nasty coyote shifter Geoffrey Hilliard and his gang. When Renny is injured on alpha wolf Mick Fischer's property and he takes her in, both of them feel the unmistakable pull of being Goddess-given mates, but emotions surrounding the death of Mick's previous mate make him reticent to open his heart, even after he makes his claim. Though the gender and dominance polarities make the intense feral sex unquestionably hot, Warren promotes the worst of gender stereotyping. She substitutes jealous possessive posturing and controlling protectiveness for male expressions of love, while giving Renny and her girlfriends all of the compassion along with strong interests in home decoration and talking about relationships. She also fails to develop the Washington refuge town and its residents. Even die-hard shifter fans will be disappointed.

Howling good read!
I have to say this was a howling good time! Sorry I couldn’t help myself! Baby, I’m Howling for You is the first full length novel in the Alphaville series. There is a prequel to this, but it isn’t necessary to read it, but I really thought it helped set the tone for the series. This book really could be read as a standalone with no problem. I really enjoyed this paranormal romance and the author’s writing style laced with humor and snark. Its action packed, has good world building, awesome secondary characters and leading characters with a lot of substance to them.
Renny is a on the run, being stalked and terrorized by another alpha from a coyote pack from her home in California. She had to give up the job she loved as a lead librarian. Renny had spurned the coyotes’ advances many times, but he wouldn’t take no for an answer. He is resorting to have his pack chase her across state lines.
Renny is trying to get to Alpha, Washington to try and make a new life for herself. She had done her research and found that Alpha is a town run by shifters for shifters. It is where shifters go that are damaged, alone or just different. It’s a place where they can go where they know they will be accepted with no questions asked. There is a mixture of all different shifters who come together to form a close-knit community. Just the place that Renny needed! Little did she know, that when she was being chased this time, she was being driven to the arms of her mate!
Mick has a tragic back story and he lives alone. He is a wolf shifter and they mate for life. His wife died eight years ago and by all accounts, he should have died too, since wolves usually can’t live long without their mates. He is just biding his time to die or, so he thinks. Mick is a rather famous graphic novelist; he not only writes them, he illustrates them. He has made a decent life for himself in Alpha, coming from California shortly after his wife died. He keeps to himself and is readily accepted for the cranky man that he is. Then one night he hears coyote yips that sound like they are in distress and it is too close for comfort. Trespassers on his land. He goes outside of his cabin and out of the woods shoots a coyote and she is badly injured. She is being chased by another coyote and he looked like he was going to finish the job he started. Mick shot him. He didn’t kill him, just injured him and he took off. Mick brought her to his cabin and called the deputy to come and take his statement. The deputy also brought along his paramedic sister and the town mayor. Now the fun begins!
I absolutely was engrossed in this book! It was a fun read and I loved the characters. There is a lot going on to keep me more than hooked! I got a little more of Alpha’s (referred to as Alphaville) story and learned more about the secondary characters that I met in Something to Howl About. The story is fast paced, and it is fun to watch Mick struggle with his feelings for Renny. They have great chemistry and the banter between them is so entertaining. The secondary characters are also hilarious! I don’t want to give anything away, as this book needs to be read and enjoyed.
If you love paranormal romance and shifters, then give this book a try. It really is a great read and I can’t wait for more of Alphaville and the wonderful characters that live there!
4 Stars!
Renny is trying desperately to reach the town of Alpha, Washington before her pursuers reach her. Alphaville is a shifter community that takes in all kinds of lone shifters and they look out for each other. With a crazy coyote stalker and his enforcers chasing her for months and running her out of every town she settles at, she needs a safe place to go.
When Renny's car runs out of gas she has no choice but to shift and run towards Alphaville, just as she reaches the outskirts, the enforcers catch up with her. Mick hears the commotion outside his house and investigates only to see an injured wolf and a coyote about to attack. Mick soon learns that Renny is his mate and calls up the help of the sheriff and Mayor to try and run down these enforcers and keep her safe.
I made the mistake of starting this story at my lunch break and it started out with the chase. I was pretty hooked and didn't want to stop to go back to work. The story kept at a pretty fast pace since the whole book is about Renny's stalker and enforcers trying to kidnap her. The whole town of Alphaville step up to try and keep her safe.
I can't say that I would fawn all over the main characters but I did enjoy the interactions of all the characters. The sheriff and Mayor's interaction with Mick was pretty comical. I also liked Molly's character. She's the sheriff's sister, the towns EMT and pretty fiesty for a lioness shifter.
This book was entertaining and I would be interested in seeing some of the side characters get their own story. ARC provided by Netgalley.
