Cixin Liu—who’s often called China's Arthur C. Clarke—digs deep into the science and technology behind his stories, making outlandish adventures seem utterly plausible. He also has a skill for casting a suspicious eye on the ethical and philosophical boundaries around scientific research. In Ball Lightning, a freak weather event kills the parents of teenager Chen, who then becomes obsessed with researching the phenomenon; things get complicated when it turns out the military is trying to harness this kind of lightning as a weapon. Combining hard science fiction and a very human backstory, Cixin creates a deeply compelling and suspenseful tale.

Addictive from the first chapter
I enjoyed reading this book so much. It’s an excellent work of science fiction. The author pays a lot of attention to adding believable details and touches a lot on the societal implications of technology advances. I’ve read the Three-Body Series by the same author and enjoyed this book as much as those books.
