Unearthly shriek--the cry of the banshee. Anann hears it before first light. The creature's warning rises out of a raging winter storm that buffets against the walls of the inn where she has sought brief shelter.

If she does not leave at once, her long journey will be futile, for the wall of time is closing. She must find the forest of Scáth Coille where her lover Morand is being held captive before he is lost to her forever. Too long now he has been held within the spell of the Lianhan Sidhe, banshee daughter of the people of the barrows, who traces a path in the dark woods that glitters in the moonlight like a thousand stars and too many men have already followed it into her embrace, and then their doom.

Madness will consume Morand if Anann cannot break the enchantment and awaken her lover to the truth.
