BASICS IN COMPUTERS AND GENERAL APPLICATIONS

When computers were introduced in the late 80s people were very excited of the phenomenon and it was expected to be a panacea to life’s challenges. What is enchanting is; with technology what you sleep with is not what you wake up to. From the large machines of 1940-1956 years known as the first generation that used vacuum tubes as a major piece of technology to the current fifth generation (2010-to present) that utilizes AI (artificial intelligence) with an array of features that can contest with humans. Good examples include Apple’s Siri on the iPhone and Microsoft’s Cortana on Windows 8 and Windows 10 computers. Among the first external storage devices were the floppy diskettes drives, today very few computers have a port for a floppy diskette. Communication to someone in another country/continent you needed to write a letter and wait for weeks if not months for the letter to be flown, nowadays with a touch of a button you can even live video call. Like all other sectors Healthcare professionals and organizations have found themselves engulfed in the ICT world. E-health: EMRs, E-scans, etc have been innovated. In this day and age Robotic surgery rapidly adopted by hospitals in the United States and Europe for use I the treatment of a wide range of conditions is an epitome of how ICT has transformed the health ministry. The most widely used clinical robotic surgical system includes a camera arm and mechanical arms with surgical instruments attached to them. The surgeon controls the arms while seated at a computer console near the operating table as the console gives the surgeon a high-definition, magnified, 3-Dview of the surgical site. The surgeon leads other team members who assist during the operation. Robotic surgery, or robot-assisted surgery, allows doctors to perform many types of complex procedures with more precision, flexibility and control than is possible with conventional techniques. Healthcare professionals need to embrace the benefits that come with technology and deal with the challenges that are concomitant with ICT. In total, the book comprises of five chapters. The chapters are systematical organized based on the following flow: Introduction, Design and Analysis, Data Base, Networking and General Applications.
