Publisher Description

#1 NEW YORK TIMES Bestseller

Inspired by Charles Dickens' immortal classic A Christmas Carol, BATMAN: NOEL features different interpretations of The Dark Knight, along with his enemies and allies, in different eras.

Along the way, Batman must come to terms with his past, present and future as he battles villains from the campy 1960s to dark and brooding menaces of today, while exploring what it means to be the hero that he is. Members of Batman's supporting cast enact roles analogous to those from A Christmas Carol, with Robin, Catwoman, Superman, The Joker and more playing roles that will be familiar to anyone who knows Dickens' original holiday tale.

    THE ART!

seriously, guys, the art is incredible! and the story is a cool spin of a christmas carol. my word, it's like a comic full of covers...it's great. this is totally worth your collection, if not just to appreciate the absurd beauty of this art.

    Something I read every Christmas

Who would have known that an artist who started drawing comics at age 19 would take a classic story, put it together with an American Icon, and somehow make it turn out as a great result? What I mean of course, is that this a Batman version of a Christmas Carol. Jeph Loeb had done something similar about a decade ago, only it was a Halloween version. But this is ten times better than Jeph's take. So why do I make this a holiday tradition? Let me explain.

    The stuff I like:
1.) The artwork is gorgeous. Every part of Gotham City is very detailed. Just take a look at some of the sketches in the back of the book. Even the way Lee draws a bat.
2.) The design of the Batsuit looks pretty original; totally different from the one in the Nolan Trilogy. Lee even make Robin's outfit less goofy than the original one.
3.) It's not totally a retelling of "A Christmas Carol". The three ghosts are just characters Batman runs across that night.

    The stuff I don't like:
1.) Batman is supposed to be Scrooge in this story, but perhaps he's a little too much like Scrooge.
2.) Superman is supposed to be the Ghost of Christmas Present, but he has a yellow glow around him for some reason. Now Superman may be my favorite superhero, but I don't like to see him all godlike.

But overall, this is a tradition I enjoy every Christmas season. If you like comics and love Christmas, then I recommend this book for you.
