8 bakers, extra quirky pets—and a murder!
How many amateur sleuths does one town need?
When Lyra St Claire, ex celebrity chef, needs help with a wedding that means a lot to her, she does something she thought she'd never do again.
The plan is simple. Invite promising bakers from other small towns nearby to show her how good they are. What better way to test them than by running a competition? She's already met one of them who would be perfect, even if the woman's reputation for solving crimes makes Lyra nervous. After all, she can hardly comment on that!
Of course, during the last competition she judged someone was murdered—surely that won't happen again?
If you love cooking wrapped around a mystery, then this is the series for you!

Delightful, interesting, cozy mystery with several sleuths and three pets!
Bagels Love Layer Cake Lies is a delightful, interesting, cozy mystery with several sleuths and three pets! I love how Ms. Phipps invited the bakers/sleuths from her other series to Lyra’s competition. It was a lot of fun to see all of these loose, working on the same case. All the pets was an added bonus. There was no way I could put this one down - so I just kept reading. The book also works as a standalone.
Crossover you need to read
Lyra is hosting a charity baking competition where several bakers are known as amateur sleuths in their hometowns. When a dead body is found nearby on the first day of the competition, the bakers get together to solve the murder.
I have been reading several series by Author C.A. Phipps for the last couple of years. This was a fun book to read; it is a crossover book I didn't realize I needed. This was only my second book in this series, but since I have read multiple books in the other series, I felt I knew the characters. The group of bakers working together to solve the murder was entertaining. The mystery was well-written with plenty of surprises to keep you guessing.
