Casey Fenton’s life was practically perfect. At just forty-five years old, she had already taken a single aesthetics salon and built it up into Makeup Centres International (MCI), a publicly traded, multimillion-dollar enterprise, of which she was now CEO, president, and majority shareholder.

Having managed to do all of this as a single mom, she was rightfully proud of her accomplishments. She only wished it hadn’t come at the expense of her relationship with her son, who had long resented playing second fiddle to her professional ambitions.
