This is actually my first Nichole Chase book and it certainly won’t be my last. I’ve always liked stories about Royalty children so when I read this blurb, I knew I had to get my hands on it.

Maddie McGuire is currently the First Daughter. With her father as President of The United States, a lot of responsibility is on her shoulders. She’s just like her mother, full of passion and goes at things head strong. Unfortunately, that trait actually causes her to end up in handcuffs. Of course, not the publicity needed or expected from the First Daughter. In an attempt to honor the consequences of her actions and help rebuild from her embarrassing act, Maddie is asked to do community service with RCVA, Returning Combat Veterans Affairs. While she’s all too happy to help Veterans, she’s not happy to learn who her new sidekick will be. They don’t have the best history.

Jake Simmons, the son of the Vice President of The United States, has returned from his latest tour in Afghanistan. He is recovering from a bodily injury but secretly battling the mental demons left behind from war. When he finds he is paired with Maddie, he isn’t exactly thrilled. They’ve never really gotten along. But now that he’s back and has a different look on life, Jake is starting to realize that the girl he thought Maddie was is the complete opposite of who she actually is. She quickly gets under his skin and his attraction grows. Will he be able to push that aside and just focus on the community service at hand or will Maddie grab on to his heart and change his world?

Well, that’s the truth. I enjoyed this book. I enjoyed Maddie’s spirit and her desire to be her own person and not to be shaped by what is expected by her. She is genuine and honest. Loving and caring and it makes sense that she is considered American’s Sweetheart in the media. She also has a great sense of humor and definitely keeps Jake on his toes.

My heart bled for Jake. The pain and guilt that he has been caring around since his last tour in Afghanistan has really taken a toll on him. While he continues to struggle with it, you can tell that he wants help but he just doesn’t know how to go about it. When he gets the devastating news that pushes him over the edge, the vulnerability, pain and sorrow that he feels is heartbreaking. I think there will be many people that can relate to his story and understand what he is dealing with.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I liked the community service ideas and the passion that they have for other causes. There’s just enough drama in there to keep the storyline going. I’m glad I read this and I can’t wait to check out more of Nichole Chase’s books!

This book isn't all roses and sunshine...it delves into the deep emotions, the mind, and the heartache of being in the public eye. And it's not just Maddie and Jake who battle with holding in the chaos of a life that will never be the same. This story was wonderfully written and takes on a lot of dark issues that can be controversial to write. But there's always light at the end of a dark tunnel. . .

Well, this time Maddie McGuire got herself in deep when is caught breaking into a lab that uses animals for experiments.

Maddie is given community service. Her service helping to promote a new program that builds homes for returning Veterans of War. Maddie loves the idea to help the veterans out but her chosen co-promoter is the perfect Jake, the Vice President’s son…the gorgeous never give her the time of day Jake.

Jake has just come back from Afghanistan and dealing with a battle field injury that has altered his life. The last thing he needs is the rambunctious Maddie by his side while he has to put on that perfect face for his mom’s political career.

Together Jake and Maddie find that they have more in common than they thought; that some things are worth fighting for; and there is a fine line between driving each other nuts and explosive passion.

Chase, once again, pens a tale of heart and home. Utterly cute and endearing romance that touches on some political hot spots that desperately need to be addressed.
