Before Adam

Before Adam is a speculative adventure novel in which a modern man experiences vivid dreams that seem to connect him with a distant prehistoric ancestor. Through these visions, Jack London imagines the struggles of early human life, including survival, fear, tribal conflict, primitive relationships, and the constant threat of stronger rivals. Blending evolutionary ideas with dramatic storytelling, the novel explores humanity’s ancient instincts and the gradual development of intelligence, cooperation, and social behavior. Both imaginative and philosophical, the story offers a fascinating fictional journey into prehistory while reflecting on human nature, memory, violence, adaptation, and the origins of civilization.
