The story of one woman’s journey into a man’s world, and back again, in the days before such things were even dreamed of, much less acceptable.

When Alexandria Latham steps out of her safe haven into the darkness one fateful spring evening, she has no way of knowing that the future was stretching out a hand to pull her toward destiny—a destiny that would hold unimaginable horrors yet would also give her the strength to make it through them.

Heedless of the risks involved, she dons the trappings of a soldier, and armed with a zealous thirst for vengeance (and her uncle’s best rifle) she starts on a journey of revenge that will take her on difficult and dangerous paths. Her introduction to this new existence is brutal, as young boys, not even men yet, die beside her on lonely battlefields. She learns what it means to trust another person with your life, and she learns what it means to save a life.

Her mission brings her the unexpected opportunity to step outside the only skin she has known and discover who she really is—without the trappings of wealth and femininity and far from the safe cocoon of home. In the end she realizes that revenge isn’t sweet if it might cost you your soul, and that neither cannon fire nor cruelty can quench the power of the human heart.
