Publisher Description

In Being Different: An Indian Challenge to Western Universalism, thinker and philosopher Rajiv Malhotra addresses the challenge of a direct and honest engagement on differences, by reversing the gaze, repositioning India from being the observed to the observer and looking at the West from the dharmic point of view. In doing so, he challenges many hitherto unexamined beliefs that both sides hold about themselves and each other.

Being Different a book every Indian should read to identify their roots

One of very few books that explains in a very simplified and crystal clear way how Hinduism is different than abrahmanic religions and as an Indian one should be proud of it as it has lot of things that encourages a person to identify oneself, realize oneself with its own methods developed by rishis and yogis thousands of years ago. Like you can take different paths to reach same goal, like in math you can solve a problem with different methods, hinduism gives thousands of ways to realize yourself , the oneness with Ishwar or paramatama. It explains the concept of mutual respect to other religions rather than merely tolerating other religions, one of the reason why India is a place where you find almost all religious people living since for more thousands of years. The book also emphasis on Sanskrit words that are non translable to other language, gives incomplete meaning when translated. It is complete joy to learn from this book. It only increases one's knowledge about what is Hinduism and the difference and greatness of the most ancient religion.
