John William Duffield was a prolific children's author and writer for the Stratemeyer Syndicate. During his lifetime, he worked as a book publisher, bookseller, journalist and reporter in New York before becoming a published author. Using the pseudonym Maitland, he wrote series of Boy Scout books.
But he was most famous for his book series about the boy Bert Wilson, which include: Bert Wilson at the Wheel, Bert Wilson's Fadeaway Ball , Bert Wilson, Wireless Operator, Bert Wilson, Marathon Winner, Bert Wilson at Panama, Bert Wilson's Twin Cylinder Racer, Bert Wilson on the Gridiron and Bert Wilson in the Rockies. Using different pseudonyms, he wrote around 115 stories for the Stratemeyer Syndicate, such as Bomba the Jungle Boy, the Radio Boys, Bobby Blake, the Rushton Boys, Don Sturdy, Baseball Joe and the Ted Scott series.
As most of his other books, the Bert Wilson book series is also a children’s book, showing the adventures of the boy names Bert Wilson. It is a great set of teen books for boys, written before the First World War. This book, particularly, is same as the others from this series. It follows the life and the adventures the young Bert Wilson experiences.
