PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Mallery returns to the tiny mountain town of Fool's Gold, Calif., in the 20th and final book in her contemporary Fool's Gold series (after Marry Me at Christmas). Shelby Gilmore followed her ski racer brother, Kipling, to town, and bought into the local bakery. After her abusive upbringing, men terrify her. Town playboy Aidan Mitchell will sleep with any woman who comes through town, but only if she's a tourist. When the two team up as friends without benefits to overcome their fears Shelby's belief that intimacy means abuse, and Aidan's belief that commitment means pain and extreme self-sacrifice neither expects the arrangement to turn into a true romance. Even as they try to insist that they're only friends, it's obvious to everyone else both fictional characters and readers that they'll end up together. Mallery spins such an appealing town in Fool's Gold that readers will want to move in, or at least return for many visits. Even though the ending is eminently predictable, this expertly characterized tale has heart and soul.

Can Men & Women really be "friends"?
***I was given a copy of this book for a true and honest review***
I'm a huge fan of the Fool's Gold series. Susan Mallery's characters are always well rounded and her locations vivid and picturesque. I felt a little lost for the first three chapters of this book, like I had been dropped into the middle of a situation I knew nothing about. It also seemed like I was missing an important piece of the story. Having said that I did enjoy the book just not as much as numerous other books in the series.
Aidan Mitchell is one of the five "famous" Mitchell boys of Fool's Gold. He finds that his life has become something that isn't very pretty nor something to be proud of. This realization was brought to light at a disastrous New Year's Eve party. He needs to make some major changes in his perception and treatment of women immediately. The question is how he is going to accomplish this tremendous feat. He has no clue but a proposal from another Fool's Gold citizen provides a possible path to improving himself and his reputation.
Shelby Gilmore, Kip's little sister has had a hard life filled with physical and verbal abuse from her father which has lead to her trust issues with men. After much serious thought and planning she has come to a decision on how best to proceed and who she will ask to help her. The experiment will allow for both herself and Aidan to change their perceptions of the opposite sex and to free themselves of their past baggage. This experiment will be for the two of them to become male/female "friends" without the complications of sex.
You need to read the book to find out how this experiment works for the both of them. Can it be done? Will self doubts and gossip help or hurt the couple as they move forward with their lives. Are they actually destined for their own HEA life?
Another great addition
This is another great addition to the Fool's Gold series centering around being friends with the opposite sex. Shelby, trying to overcome her past, proposes an experiment with Aiden where they would be just friends. I enjoyed the various "gender events" they went on as they navigated their friendship. My favorite part was the gender switched event near the end of the book (Aiden and the girls and Shelby with the boys). So pick up the book and enjoy returning to Fool's Gold and seeing old and new friends.
Best of the series!!
Best of My Love is one of my favorite books of the Fool's Gold series. Aiden and Shelby have decided to be friends- definitely not a couple. Yeah, we know how that's going to work out for them. But the journey is lots of fun with hilarity along the path. Haven't you always wondered how the other half thinks? Well, these two take the time to find out. Doing male/female focused activities and learning about each other. Becoming friends and of course something more. I loved so many things about this book. How it made me feel and how much I laughed while reading it. And the dog Charlie. I loved him!! So much fun. We get to visit with past characters too. And get a glimpse into the spin-off series Happily Inc. Ms. Mallery always makes me glad I picked up one of her books. I can't wait to read the next series!! Thank you for a terrific book and the laughs. I really needed this!
