Fifteen-year-old Lina is a Lithuanian girl living an ordinary life -- until Soviet officers invade her home and tear her family apart. Separated from her father and forced onto a crowded train, Lina, her mother, and her young brother make their way to a Siberian work camp, where they are forced to fight for their lives. Lina finds solace in her art, documenting these events by drawing. Risking everything, she imbeds clues in her drawings of their location and secretly passes them along, hoping her drawings will make their way to her father's prison camp. But will strength, love, and hope be enough for Lina and her family to survive?

A moving and haunting novel perfect for readers of The Book Thief.

So Powerful!

I am a high school student who was on the selection committee for my local library's teen book club, and this was one of the nominated books. I loved it and so did the other readers, it easily made the club's list. This was really powerful, there were times I wanted to laugh, times I wanted to cry, times when I loved Lina, times when I wanted to scream at her, it was AMAZING! I would of loved them to explore the ending more, but it was still such a powerful book. All teens should read, and adults too!
