An Instant New York Times, USA Today, and Indie Bestseller
Enter a darker age with New York Times bestselling author Christopher Buehlman's Between Two Fires, a medieval horror adventure unlike anything on the shelf.
And Lucifer said: “Let us rise against Him now in all our numbers, and pull the walls of heaven down…”
The year is 1348.
Thomas, a disgraced knight, has found a young girl alone in a dead Norman village. An orphan of the Black Death, and an almost unnerving picture of innocence, she tells Thomas that plague is only part of a larger cataclysm—that the fallen angels under Lucifer are rising in a second war on heaven, and that the world of men has fallen behind the lines of conflict. Is it delirium or is it faith?
She believes she has seen the angels of God. She believes the righteous dead speak to her in dreams. And now she has convinced the faithless Thomas to shepherd her across a depraved landscape to Avignon.
There, she tells Thomas, she will fulfill her mission: to confront the evil that has devastated the earth, and to restore to this betrayed, murderous knight the nobility and hope of salvation he long abandoned.
As hell unleashes its wrath, and as the true nature of the girl is revealed, Thomas will find himself on a macabre battleground of angels and demons, saints, and the risen dead, and in the midst of a desperate struggle for nothing less than the soul of man.

One of the best Medieval stories written
This was by far the best book I’ve read all year. I had seen reviews but didn’t believe them. This was an awesome adventure that had you at the edge of your seat and wanting to know what the next page had in store. This book had an excellent blend of religious, darkness, humor and awesome characters that made this book a top tier choice. The medieval aspect and dark themes portrayed throughout was unlike anything I had ever read! I will be recommending this book to anyone looking for a dark and interesting adventure where unlikely companions become true heroes.
Between two fires
Horrible! Very hard to follow. I finished but felt totally let down. Don’t bother.
An excellent read.
I heard good things about this book and I’ve not read in quite some time, so I decided to start here. I was at first apprehensive of finishing the read but was unanimously hooked after a few chapters. I’d describe this book less as horror and more as religious adventure, with an excellent sense of humor and world building. My only qualm with the book was that it was too short.
