Beyond Limits

While this is the eighth book in the Tracers series from Laura Griffin it can be read as a stand alone. This is a romantic suspense that takes place between FBI agent Elizabeth LeBlanc and Navy SEAL Derek Vaughn. Their relationship is complicated and they have a history that they are both hung up on and trying to ignore at the same time. Derek pretty much throws himself into Elizabeth's investigation, making sure that even though he is not someone working the case he still ends up being someone working the case.

It is obvious Laura Griffin knows her stuff when it comes to SEALs and the FBI, and that she has done her research into creating a realistic story line. The story is just as much if not more about the mission than it is about the romance between Derek and Elizabeth. The driving force behind moving the plot line is the case, their romance just happens to get tangled up in it all.

The story did feel a tad slow at times, I think this is due to the realism that Laura Griffin tries to create. A case in the real world doesn't always constantly move forward. There are times of frustration and delays and dead ends that make the case feel impossible to solve. You will get that realistic aspect of working a case in Beyond Limits.

Even with the occasional slow part Laura Griffin has a talent for writing, the story unfolding like a movie in mind. There are a few twists that your mind will be left trying to figure out and a sense of unease on a couple of the characters that will leave you a bit confused. In fact I am going to be the next book in the series will touch on those two characters, and I am a bit intrigued to figure out just what is going on.

Amazing book! I couldn't put it down. Definitely looking forward to more books!

In the latest book of the Tracer series, Laura Griffin brings us a portrayal of counter terrorism that is suspenseful and on point. Since this is the first book by the author that I have read, I wasn’t exactly sure what I would get, but I was so pleasantly surprised. Not since I read Suzanne Brockmann’s DO OR DIE, have I enjoyed such an action packed and well crafted story. As a reader (and TV/Movie lover), there is nothing more that I love than action. In other words, you would find it hard-pressed to find a car chase, suspect standoff, or an explosion that I don’t like. I will admit it. In entertainment, I am a bit of an adrenaline junkie and this book became the best kind of fix.

I dived right in and couldn’t stop reading. As each page went by, I was surprised at how easily the author weaved in the jargon of these characters. At first I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to keep up, but this is not the case at all. The terms and “special operation speak” only made it all better. As a reader, you feel that you are right there in the thick of it. What a ride! I will say that the romance in this book, though present is secondary. However, this by no means diminishes the story. In fact, I think that the author actually made it better by honoring the story line and not trying to force something.

In the story we meet FBI agent Elizabeth LeBlanc and Navy SEAL Derek Vaughn. The two are thrown together, much to Elizabeth’s surprise, when a case pops up involving an operation that Derek’s SEAL team was on. As they navigate the ins and outs of the case, Elizabeth begins to wonder what would happen if she gave into the obvious attraction between the two. However, in true suspense novel style, they are interrupted by the situation at hand. Together with a team from Delphi Center, these two try to stop a terrorist that has his sights set on making his presence known. Will they be able to stop the villain? (And yes you can picture the crazy mustached hat wearing cartoon character if you like.) Will Derek seek retribution for the loss of one of his own? All the answers are in the pages of this truly a great read.
