I haven't officially read this
But I know that the giver actually does continue... He goes thru with the sled to a community with gabe and they take them in kindly, in the messenger, Jonas is the leader they just say he came in on a sled and in Son the last book, they tell u that he did make it and that Jonas has a wife now and kids, and gabe is somewhere around 12-13 I think
