Carol M Smith ,

Nisha Singh’s Bhrigu Mahesh, PhD: The Witch of Senduwar

This book takes us on a trip to Senduwar in
India. Here is where the Witch of Senduwar
lives. She had been burned on a stake and
the ground near her death is said to be
haunted. When a teenage boy, Malthu,
takes on a dare to visit the sacred ground,
he discovers gold pieces.
Then he is found dead of a broken neck on
the witch’s ground. The superstitious villagers
believe the witch killed him as a punishment for
defying her ground but his mother does not
believe this to be true. She wants to know who
murdered her son.
When Private Investigator Detective Bhrigu
Mahesh appears on the scene with his friend,
Sutte who is a journalist, the investigation into
this boy’s death begins.
The description in the story was very detailed. The
reader learns about village life, customs, clothing,
foods and superstitions. The village characters all
take on a life of their own. Each character is
uniquely described by each’s idiosyncrasies.
The plot combined mystery, suspense, murder,
dark secrets, deceit, betrayal, viciousness and
greed.
It was not an ease task to unmask the culprit plus
sift through the clues.
An interesting array of characters set in a land
that takes the reader to a different lifestyle.
I volunteered to read Bhrigu Mahesh, PhD:
The Witch of Senduwar. Thanks to the Review Crew
for the opportunity. My opinion is voluntary and my
own.
