After Loving Eliza, John and Eliza adopt a blind boy named Brian who was abandoned by his father. Bid for a Bride is Brian’s romance. The story begins in the quiet South Dakota town where Brian lives.

Lucy finds out the man she just married already has a wife, and what’s worse is that he’s trying to sell her to the highest bidder. The preacher intervenes and helps her annul her marriage, but he’s aware that Lucy’s week with her bigamist husband might have resulted in a pregnancy. To protect her reputation, he asks Brian Evans to marry her. Brian jumps at the chance and proposes to her. Seeing no other option, Lucy agrees. But will Brian have the marriage based on love that he longs for or will he always be Lucy’s convenient husband?

Good read...

Excellent!

Excellent story line, characters and writing. LOVED this book. Sometimes romance stories can be so predictable, this one was different. Great book.

The story continues...and doesn’t disappoint!

I loved reading the first book in this series, “Loving Eliza”, so I was equally excited to read this one about Eliza and John’s adopted son. It was just as emotionally touching as I thought it would be—with just enough intrigue, a little drama, and a whole lot of tender affection, this book struck the right balance.

The main characters are likable and I love that they were immediately compatible, even if they didn’t fall in love at first. Most marriage of convenience stories have lots of tension between the couple initially, so it was a refreshing change to see their relationship grow naturally as they both respected each other from the start and made equal effort to learn about one another.

As with the first story, I love the inclusion of physical disability in the storyline—something you don’t see in most stories. There is a natural acceptance of it in the family and the way that their daily life was displayed throughout the book showed respect for the differently-abled community. Kudos to the author for being a voice of inclusion in this genre.

Aside from that, the writing style is a little simplistic, but the more I read from this author the more I come to appreciate the lack of “fluff” and just let myself enjoy the story.

As for the romance, there are a few sexual scenes between married people and while descriptive they are not “dirty”, and I would rate them somewhere around PG-13 or TV-14.

Overall, I’m a fan of this book series so far and I look forward to reading more from this author!
