Publisher Description

Alex and Janice's son, Seth, was born early and was in the NICU for the next five months.  Alex ate his way through the stress and became very obese.  Eventually deciding to turn things around, Alex lost 70 pounds and took a community college diving class.  At the age of 43, this once fat soccer dad suddenly realized he could potentially make it to the California State Diving Championships with the right coaching.

A week after Alex joined the local college dive team, a bad dive tore both rotator cuffs.  Two surgeries and two years of recovery later, Alex sought out Greg Louganis and asked him to be his coach.  Greg began coaching Alex and an unlikely friendship developed.  Beginning January 2016, Alex is back on the El Camino College Diving Team and is trying to make it to state in May of 2016.

Big Fat Diver takes us through Alex’s journey from the birth of his youngest son through his quest to make it to State.

Will a 44-year-old Big Fat Diver make it to the College State Diving Championships?  Find out in this uplifting, funny and inspiring true story about love, loss, over rotating, overeating, overcoming and triumph!

iBooks edition contains exclusive video updates sent to Greg Louganis and other fun video segments, diving fails and diving successes.  Readers can follow the rest of the story as it happens at bigfatdiver.com.

    Heartbreaking and Heroic

How do does a middle-aged parent cope with the death of their infant child? With family, friends, faith and literally diving into the deep end. Don't worry, this isn't a preachy memoir. It's honest and cleanly written. I read it in one sitting. More importantly, it's inspiring. Whether you're dealing with tragedy, lost sight of a dream or just need a push to lose the extra pounds, Alex's story reminds us of the beautiful serendipity that happens in life when we keep moving forward. What I love most is that he is still struggling with the weight and the sadness, but he doesn't let that stop him from getting back on that board and jumping in. We should all follow his lead.
