Vampires and 2nd chance at love
Enjoyed this book about a vampire run city and a 2nd chance at love after nearly 500 years. Well written and kept me wanting to turn the pages faster to find out what happens next!
Interesting and original!
This is a interesting story. It's unlike anything else I've read. The female lead, Catherine, is a vampire living in a city run by vampires that is walled off from the rest of the human world. After being thrown out of her family over five hundred years ago, and spending years as a courtesan, Catherine is now the owner and Madam of the most exclusive brothel in the city. She treats her girls well and protects them from the dangers that living within the City of Blood presents. Benedict is the long lost love from her past that cost her the safety of being with her family. They fell in love and, after her parents forbid them from seeing one another, were caught together in a compromising situation.
Their story is interesting. It isn't overly exciting, and it runs at a pretty calm pace, but it was a fun read. I look forward to seeing how their underground railroad works out.
Blast from the past
The City of Blood is a dangerous place even for vampires. No one knows that truth more than the infamous Lady Catherine madam of a high class courtesan establishment. Yet five hundred years is a long time and she grows weary of this new and unforgiving place. Then a voice from the past one she hates and loves in equal measure and one she never thought she’d hear again. Benedict is the man she loved and wanted to marry when she was young and the man who’s love caused her to be thrown out and set upon her path. When they reunite everything changes for both of them and the danger is just beginning.
A bit of a thriller and love story rolled into one. I’ve heard mention of the city in other series by the author and it was fascinating to see how it all started. The love story is romantic without being sappy. And the spoons, sigh so lovely! A thoroughly enjoyable story!
I received an ARC of this story, this is my honest review.
