APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Being a Pulitzer nominee is cool and all, but lifelong comics fan Ta-Nehisi Coates fulfilled a childhood dream when he helped reboot Marvel superhero Black Panther in 2016. This anthology collects the first four issues of that thrilling 12-part A Nation Under Our Feet storyline, scripted by Coates and given a sleek Afrofuturist look by illustrator Brian Stelfreeze. The taut plot sees heroic King T’Challa dealing with troubles back home in Wakanda as tensions mount, allies doubt, and terrorists conspire. Meanwhile, a sweetly sensitive romance develops between two members of the Dora Milaje, Wakanda’s all-women special forces team. The book’s bonus content includes a reprint of Black Panther’s first-ever appearance from 1966, a treat for old-school fans and a chance for newcomers to see how empowering this hero has always been.
